    Currently, we are seeking a Managing Director, EIU Research who will report directly to the CEO of the EIU and have responsibility for the commercial leadership of all of the EIU’s core research businesses. This includes the subscriptions business, the EIU’s largest and most profitable business, and the Economist Corporate Network (ECN), our emerging markets business. In addition, this role will also have commercial responsibility for growing two of the EIU’s newest research businesses – global advisory and the speaker bureau.

     

    Direct leadership for all of the commercial teams sitting within these businesses will also be a key responsibility, while the EIU’s Editorial Director leads the editorial research teams. The MD EIU Research is responsible for strategy, the results and commercial success of these core EIU businesses, while the Editorial Director is the guardian of the content which these businesses generate, its quality and integrity. Both roles will work closely together as part of the EIU’s executive committee.

    Accountabilities

    How you will contribute: 

     

    • Be a commercial leader on the EIU ExCo responsible for growing the research businesses
    • Partner with the Editorial Director for the EIU to create a longer term vision and growth plan for the research businesses
    • Have direct P&L accountability for EIU Subscriptions, ECN, global advisory and speaker bureau
    • Directly lead all sales resources within the research businesses; this includes a client services existing business team, a new business sales team, an inside sales team and an ECN sales team. The role has 5 direct senior level reports located across EMEA, US and Asia
    • Partner with the Editorial director, CDO and product head on all aspects of product and service innovation to ensure the research business retains its competitive edge
    • As a key member of the EIU ExCo contribute to business strategy and growth more broadly
    • Identify adjacent markets and innovate around products and business model in order to enter them
    • Continuously review and develop the appropriate skill set needed in the different commercial teams in order to grow the business
    • Personally represent the EIU to clients and prospective clients and lead on the appropriate sales and renewal pitches working with the Editorial director as appropriate

    The ideal skills for this role include:

     

    • Proven experience in a senior commercial leadership role within a B2B business, preferably in the business intelligence and market research sector
    • Must have a successful track record of leadership and business acumen and be able to contribute actively as a member of an executive leadership team
    • Must have demonstrable experience of leading and developing business development and account management teams globally
    • A highly innovative mindset with entrepreneurial spirit to help us shape our growth initiatives and ventures across EIU research
    • Proven ability to lead change within a matrixed globally dispersed business
    • Experienced in leading and developing large teams with wide range of capabilities
    • Extensive travel required
