    The Senior Consultant will work with the team to grow our Public Policy consulting business in Europe. She/he will have a strong commercial aptitude, with a proven ability to generate new client relationships and opportunities, and to deepen existing client relationships. This is a client-facing consultant role on an entrepreneurial, high-growth, global team.


    The successful candidate will have a keen interest in global public policy issues and a natural intellectual curiosity. They will work directly with clients to define their requirements and to conceptualise and present compelling ideas and proposals to them. The successful candidate will also provide senior oversight and leadership on projects, advising on methodologies, supervising project teams and ensuring that quality thresholds are upheld.


    As Senior Consultant you will leverage existing relationships within the public and private sectors and sell consulting services in order to win new business and grow existing accounts.  



    How you will contribute: 


    Business development

    • Develop a new set of clients for the EIU’s Public Policy team, by proactively identifying organisations of interest and engaging them in discussions about potential projects. Lead the business development process from initial outreach to contract drafting, and contribute directly to team revenue targets 
    • Provide leadership in growing existing accounts; identify, qualify and pursue opportunities for developing new business; participate in new business process, including serving as a member of the pitch team
    • Serve as a senior client contact for key regional accounts. Use influence and position to renew and grow these accounts, deepening the relationships with these clients. Build and maintain relationships with key clients to ensure business is renewed and expanded
    • Develop compelling concept notes and proposals for new research and engagement programmes for target clients. Effectively present these ideas and proposals to target clients to secure their buy in
    • Help identify new areas of business for EIU Public Policy, based on our services, skills and experience in public policy, benchmarking, risk assessments, political and economic analysis, scenario work, and economic modelling and forecasting


    Project execution

    • Conceptualize solutions and methodologies for new public policy research and engagement projects
    • Provide high-level supervision of all aspects of project delivery including methodology design, primary and secondary research, client relations, cost control and contributor management
    • Oversee the preparation of final research outputs for client projects, including policy briefs, economic analysis, forecasting models, benchmarking models, data collection, interpretation, analysis and presentations
    • Ensure that the consulting work delivered by the project team meets the quality standards, branding rules and editorial guidelines set by the Economist Intelligence Unit
    • Responsible for developing project revenue milestones, tracking progress and communicating forecast to Regional Director
    • Present interim project status and final project deliverables to clients

     Capacity building

    • Coach, train and mentor other team members in matters of career and personal development.
    • Develop methods and approaches for research/services that will help to scale up the EIU Public Policy business and to ensure consistent quality of output
    • Work with the Economics Unit, Country Analysis and other parts of the Economist Intelligence Unit, including Media Businesses and Thought Leadership, to secure their input to Public Policy research projects and their support in product development
    • Help build and manage a network of external contributors to be employed in delivering PPEP projects

    Experience, skills and professional attributes

    The ideal skills for this role include:

    • Experience liaising with and presenting to senior-level policymakers and executives
    • Experience in planning and monitoring revenue
    • Experience presenting at conferences and client events (e.g. presentations)
    • A proven track record of selling new business, strategic intelligence or evidenced-based research services to senior decision-makers within the public and private sector
    • A Masters Degree in a field such as International Affairs, Public Policy, Business or Economics is desirable
    • A network of established relationships/contacts across government and sectors (public policy, financial services, energy, technology, etc.)    
    • The ability to quickly develop a strong knowledge base of EIU consulting services and capabilities
    • An understanding of business trends, government affairs, public policy topics and economic principles
    • The ability to manage multiple projects at different stages of development and effectively move through the pipeline to achieve short, mid and long-term sales targets
