    There is a new opportunity for an Application Developer to join our rapidly growing Digital team in London. As we look to accelerate our drive towards becoming a digitally enabled business, we are actively changing our landscape, embracing cloud technologies, microservices, focusing on delivering both rapidly and reliably.

     

    We want you to come and help us drive up the quality of our products, to enable us to embrace these new technologies and the impact they can have on our business.

    This role will be part of our London team, which is connected to a wider Global presence across London and New York. Some flexibility will be required to work with some crossover with New York.

    Accountabilities

    How you will contribute:

     

    Application development

    • Run Data processing tasks using VBA, MS Access and SQL Server
    • Communicate with users to resolve testing defects
    • Develop EIU Content Managements and Workflow extensions in MS Excel applications (Example: Visual Studio tools for Office)
    • Develop database features in MS Access and MS SQL Server (data modelling, T-SQL, and SSIS) for managing business data and reporting

    Project management and planning

    • Work in Agile Scrum and Kanban process where team communication and flexibility are highly valued
    • Break down user stories into development tasks
    • Participate in design sessions and technical documentation

    Experience, skills and professional attributes

    Desirable skills for this role include:

    • Any degree with strong quantitative elements (IT, mathematics, statistics, engineering etc.) or equivalent experience
    • Ability to learn quickly and add value to an existing system
    • An aptitude for programming language and Application Development
    • Great troubleshooting and problem solving skills, and solution oriented approach
    • A basic understanding of software development process and some familiarity with any programming language
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office suite

    Further desirable skills include:

    • Excellent comprehension and communication skills
    • Proven track record of designing and implementing innovative solutions in academic projects or a past job
    • Demonstration of ability to think logically and break down a problem in smaller tasks
    • Ability to think out of the box and adhering to deadlines
    • Additional technical skills is a plus
      • VBA for Excel
      • R coding
      • Any other programming language
    • The ability to interact with multidisciplinary teams through the software development life cycle
    • A strong proficiency in setting up, optimizing, testing, and debugging applications to ensure operation, quality and conformance to creative and engineering specifications
    • Some previous knowledge in enterprise application development, and modelling in both relational and NoSQL databases is ideal
    • Familiarity to use most of the following tools used by EIU Digital:
      • Development:
        • MS Office 2010 or higher
        • MS SQL Server 2008 or higher
        • Visual Studio 2010 or higher
