    We are recruiting a sub editor to undertake the sub editing and presentation of the Latin America region's portfolio of print and electronic products within The Economist Intelligence Unit's Country Publishing division. This will include the sub editing and publishing directly to the website of the Latin America region's daily events-driven articles.


    How will you contribute:

    • Carry out on-screen sub editing, e.g. grammar, punctuation, spelling in compliance with house style
    • Improve text by identifying inconsistencies and errors, in both language and content, and resolve ambiguous passages in conjunction with the editor
    • Check internal consistency of statistical data
    • Assess the level of sub editing needed for each report
    • Detect internal inconsistencies
    • Handle text, tables and charts within a custom-built template; final formatting and page layout of both print and electronic products within the template
    • Take responsibility for sending both print and electronic products for final publication through the template
    • Take responsibility for the sub editing and publishing directly to the website of daily events-driven pieces
    • Assist other regional sub editors when uneven workflows arise

    Experience, skills and professional attributes

    The ideal skills for this role are:

    • A degree or equivalent (ideally in English, Political Science, Politics, Economics, International Relations or a related subject)
    • Relevant work experience in a sub editing role
    • International commercial exposure within a publishing environment
    • Knowledge of custom-built templates, including formatting and page layout
    • An interest in, or basic understanding of, macroeconomic analysis, politics and international affairs.
    • Intermediate Word; Excel
    • A good command of the English language, and written Spanish or Portuguese is an advantage
