    We are recruiting for a Senior Economist who will be able to lead our team of economists within the quantitative modelling team.The Senior Economist will work to develop our modelling and forecasting methodologies and lead the development of quantitative analysis. The Senior Economist will also contribute to the advancement of the EIU's Data Services portfolio through product development and work closely with our consulting teams to deliver bespoke research projects with a strong quantitative element. In addition, the Senior Economist will be able to promote methodologies and present the EIU’s forecasts at client events, conferences and seminars to improve the EIU"s visibility in the market.

    Accountabilities

    How will you contribute?

     

    Client relationships/media:

    • Represent EIU Data Services to both internal and external clients and/or partners; communicate research results to clients through presentations and written reports
    • Work with the sales and marketing teams to promote the EIU, through client visits, presentations, white papers and media interviews

    Data Analysis:

    • Contribute to protecting and enhancing the quality of EIU’s data products and ensure regular quality checks
    • Ensure that EIU Data Services is consistent and of high editorial quality in terms of coverage, content and format

    Quantitative methodology:

    • Provide leadership in development and implementation of quantitative techniques to improve EIU’s proprietary models and forecast methodologies; ensuring the accuracy, reliability and consistency of economic forecasts and quantitative analysis
    • Lead the development of new methodologies and quantitative models (and products) in conjunction with the Directors of Economics Unit, Country Risk and Global Forecast; develop and commercialize such methodologies

    Coordination, training and product development:

    • Work closely with Editorial, Sales & Marketing and Consulting teams to support the forecasting process and to promote EIU methodologies
    • Coordinate modelling & forecasting resources to support internal training programs

    Management and scheduling:

    • Take line management responsibility for a team of four economists; this will involve recruitment, training, coaching, conducting formal performance reviews and dealing with any disciplinary issues in conjunction with the Director of Economics Unit
    • Make recommendations regarding salaries and promotions, supported by relevant evidence of performance standards; manage the distribution of the work within the team in a transparent fashion

    Experience, skills and professional attributes

    The ideal skills for this role are -


    • Relevant post-graduate degree in Economics, Econometrics, Statistics or related subject
    • Proven experience in managing/leading a team of economists/quantitative analysts
    • Proven experience in econometric/statistical modelling and analysis – with a focus towards forecasting 
    • Proven experience with modelling global macroeconomic dynamics & linkages OR multivariate time series modelling

    • Proven experience with predictive analytics modelling
    • Advanced Excel skills and knowledge of database management
    • Hands on experience with statistical packages like Eviews/Stata and coding skills in R/Matlab

    • Strong understanding of key econometric/statistical concepts and methods
    • Leadership to manage a diverse team, many of whom would be located remotely
    • Good communication skills to work effectively with other functional teams
    • Initiative and creativity in providing client solutions
    • Ability to use team resources effectively and deliver high quality output
