    We are recruiting a DevOps Engineer for our newly formed DevOps centre of excellence reporting to the DevOps Manager who will take execute tasks working into cross functional product organisations.

    Our Digital Team is a product-centric organisation spanning many areas of technology and product development at The Economist.  We are strong believers that innovation comes from within and encourage exploration of new tools and techniques. We use open-source technologies wherever possible and give back to the community by open sourcing code when appropriate. Many members of our team contribute to open source projects individually. We are actively changing our landscape, embracing microservices, engaging front end experiences with Isomorphic JS frameworks, continuous integration and tightening the feedback loop through continuous delivery.




    How you will contribute:


    • Assist the operations management to prioritize, delegate, and monitor the incoming daily workload
    • Participate in process development or enhancement that will have an impact on developer build tools
    • Review and approve releases pertaining to QA/Staging/production deployment activities
    • Evaluate and select third-party tools for automation and monitoring purposes
    • Operations and support of Jenkins, Salt, and JIRA
    • Create and maintain documentation related to all mentioned activities
    • Mentor and train other team members
    • Collaborate with developers and third party vendors on operational and support activities
    • Ensure timely completion of operational requests and activities, routinely interacts with stakeholders/customers to ensure project success
    • Assist management with strategizing/designing/brainstorming the architecture of the AWS platform
    • Report to management on weekly metrics, including proactively assessing forward-facing potential risks

    Experience, skills and professional attributes

    The ideal skills for this role are:

    • Prior/current experience implementing and mastering Continuous Integration Dev Ops (CI/CD) design for a streamlined build and deployment pipeline
    • Previous experience administering a continuous integration build management pipeline using tools such as CodeShip, Bamboo, Elastic beanstalk and GO CD
    • Understanding and implementation of configuration management concepts and disciplines such as source code branching/merging strategies is a must
    • Experience with tools and terminology from an AWS infrastructure environment.  Eg. ECS, auto-scaling, Self healing, AMI, Elastic BeakStalk
    • Artifact repository tool administration and configuration experience with a tool such as GitHub
    • Scripting skills with languages such as Perl/PHP along with previous experience managing maintenance and administration of Jenkins and JIRA
    • Experience in build and release engineering or configuration management
    • Experience with configuration management and automation tools – Chef/Puppet/Salt, Docker, Vagrant
    • Understanding of Agile development, continuous deployment and continuous integration
    • Knowledge of source control systems including Git and the ability to write scripts in Powershell or Bash
