    We are recruiting an Enterprise Architect, this is a unique position which is highly visible within the business and technology group.

     

    The role demands the expected maturity and experience of an enterprise level architect, who can linearise, refine and communicate business requirements and expectations to the engineering team. Get close to implementation, steer and support developers in their daily work while looking down the line at the next work items.  

     

    The successful candidate will be need to hit the ground running and take ownership of the work in progress bringing their own vision and expertise to a mature but pre-released project. In return you would be part of a success story that will grow The Economist into a world class digital player.

    Accountabilities

    How you will contribute:

     

    • Have technical solution ownership of the group’s e-commerce and CRM Enterprise architecture
    • Translate, and drive, the business requirements into technical and process terms while putting our current and future readership to the fore
    • Delivering and clearing the path for the best practical technical solution
    • Aligning the technology team’s focus through continued participation in daily stand-up, planning sessions and agile rituals  
    • Designing and owning architectural vision and blueprint
    • Defining and communicating the solution System Qualities in terms of the value stream and return on investment
    • Evaluating design alternatives and performing cost benefit analysis
    • Leading and organising evaluations of the third party Commercial Off-The-Shelf and/or bespoke solutions (including RFP/RFQ etc)
    • Presenting, at all levels within the organisation, the technical vision, plan and the progress of project
    • Developing and maintaining necessary models and documentation to describe what the system ‘is’ and what it ‘does’
    • Actively participating in how we improve the quality assurance processes and working with our development partners
    • Serving as the technical governance representative within cross functional teams and practises Architecture, Engineering, DevOps and QA

    Experience, skills and professional attributes

    The ideal skills for this role are:

     

    • Demonstrable experience and expert level understanding of enterprise architectures with repeatable practices and process
    • A background in coding and not shy to dive in technically hands-on when needs must (and know when not to)
    • Solid applicable knowledge of Enterprise and Organisational patterns include Reactive techniques
    • Practical knowledge of at least two of the following Salesforce including SFMC, Zuora, Mulesoft and EZ Publish
    • SOA, Microservices and the relation to DevOps : Containers, deployment and resilience strategies, working knowledge of the AWS cloud suite ideal
    • Domain Driven Design (Evans) and Lean Architecture (Coplein) would be a helpful plus
    • A background in software engineering practices including areas such as: Codeline management, feature toggling vs branching, CI/CD, automated testing and reporting
    • Curiousity and well read on emerging practices and trends, you will be expected to bring modern solutions to the table
    • A strong background in enterprise solutions is highly preferable
    • Reasonable knowledge of security by design techniques (pattern level at least)
    • The ability to quickly absorb, assess situations, make decisions and resolve in-flight with little fuss
    • The ability to rapidly switch ‘track’ and plans as the business strategy evolves, providing change management and course correction
    • Experience in defining governance, best practices, standards and communication channels
    • An understanding of Agile in the context of enterprise business methodology such as TOGAF would be helpful
    • Experience in keeping teams - not just technical - focused and on message with project  
    • Experience of mentoring and coaching a diverse team, taking ownership of the practice of excellence
