    The Economist Intelligence Unit’s Public Policy Consulting Practice in Singapore is looking for an experienced business development and sales professional.  The candidate must have a consultative sales approach and demonstrate success developing an organic pipeline and closing new clients in both the public and private sector.  An understanding of public policy issues and experience with bespoke evidenced- based research services is a key requirement.  The role will cover a territory of North and South Asia.

    Role and how you will contribute to EIU's success   

     

    The role is critical to the growth of the Public Policy practice in Asia and the broader EIU business.  It will require acquisition of new clients and development of new business within existing accounts. 

     

    The ideal candidate will be a sales or business development professional with 5+ years of success closing complex new client deals of 75K+ through a consultative sales approach.  The candidate will have key relationships with government, trade associations, consulting firms and/or public relations firms that can be leveraged to develop qualified opportunities and consistently achieve sales targets and objectives.  

     

    The candidate will be required to sell evidenced-based research services to clients across the public and private sector as well as Government agencies.  These services could include, but are not limited to the following:

     

    • Policy strategy – evidenced-based issue analysis, investment prioritization, stakeholder perception surveys, prioritizing and defining challenges
    • Policy development – policy benchmarking, best practices, recommendations and economic and social impact.
    • Policy advocacy – issue-based analysis to influence and engage policymakers
    • Economic, political, risk, market opportunity, economic impact and/or industry analysis.

     

    Accountabilities

    How you will contribute: 

    • Create qualified opportunities to pipeline through relationship building, matching client needs with EIU Consulting solutions and capabilities, and identifying project funding sources
    • Conduct business development activities (cold calls, face-to-face meetings)
    • Work closely with EIU consultants to develop   high-quality proposal concepts and scoping documents Closely monitor tenders from key client organizations; build relationships with decision-makers before and during the bid process
    • Develop strategic partnerships with relevant external organizations and experts to facilitate pipeline development and increase closure rates
    • Serve as client advocate for large engagements, acting as interface between EIU project team and client stakeholders
    • Leverage reporting tools in salesforce, providing accurate perspective of current pipeline and overall activity levels
    • Exceed revenue targets and achieving monthly activity goals (calls, meetings, leads) within assigned territory

     

    Experience, skills and professional attributes

    The ideal skills for this role are:

    • 5+ years of business development experience and a track record of selling new business strategic intelligence and evidenced-based research services to senior decision-makers within Governments and Non-Profits
    • Undergraduate Degree or equivalent work experience. Masters Degree in a field such as International Affairs, Public Policy, Business or Economics is desirable
    • Proficiency in English
    • A network of established relationships/contacts across government and sectors (public policy, financial services, energy, technology, etc.)   
    • The ability to quickly develop a strong knowledge base of EIU consulting services and capabilities. 
    • An understanding of business trends, government affairs, public policy topics and economic principles
    • The ability to communicate effectively and work efficiently with a diversity of internal technical teams to achieve results.
    • The ability to manage multiple opportunities at different stages of development and effectively move thru the pipeline to achieve short, mid and long term sales targets.
