The Financial Controller leads a small Finance team to support the Managing Director and the TVC Board members. Ideally you will have experience of working in a fast moving small business environment, and you must be willing to show flexibility in the duties you undertake.


This is a role with a significant outward facing interaction with the business, providing Directors and Managers with financial reporting and analysis, assisting them in the preparation of proposals and helping make operational decisions about project budgets and resourcing.


In this role you will be expected to:

  • Support the Managing Director of TVC in managing costs and margins to help him deliver the budgeted profit for the year
  • Ensure the timely delivery of accurate and insightful financial information which enables the board at TVC to understand financial performance and to make better decisions
  • Maintain strong financial controls and implement improvements to processes and systems which improve control, effectiveness and efficiency
  • Manage and coach the members of the Finance team to help them develop, and to build a culture of team-working and excellence
  • Lead the financial planning and reporting processes providing financial insight that helps TVC and the Media Businesses division deliver the budget and five year plan
  • Deliver accurate and timely financial reporting and insight
  • Support the CFO in building an effective and efficient Finance function

Experience, skills and professional attributes

To succeed in the role you must have:

  • Extensive experience working in a content or marketing agency. During this time you will have worked closely with the business on operational decision making around project budgets, resourcing decisions and managing headcount and freelancers
  • Strong school academics and an accountancy qualification (e.g. CIMA, ACA).
  • Experience working as a financial controller or finance manager including budgeting, forecasting and analysis, closing the month end accounts, preparing management reporting packs with variance analysis, and reconciling balance sheet accounts
  • Solid technical accounting skills: Knowledge of IFRS, revenue recognition, project tracking, pricing and project cost budgeting, accounting controls, awareness of tax and legal issues
  • A track record in managing a team of qualified and part qualified accountants, building a good team spirit and developing individuals
  • Experience working in an evolving finance function, making changes to processes and systems to support evolving business needs and to improve the effectiveness of the finance function
  • Good analytical skills and an ability to communicate financial information and concepts simply and clearly to the business
  • Good communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • The ability to work effectively with people at different levels inside and outside the division.
  • Experience working with multiple products, currencies and geographic locations
  • Advanced user in PowerPoint and Excel. Must have good knowledge of pivot tables, charts, vlookups, sumifs and model building. Competent user of ThinkCell, Google Sheets and Google Drive
