As a DevOps Engineer, you will work within a cross-functional Agile team in our Birmingham office to design and implement the infrastructure that serves as the backbone of our platforms.

Accountabilities

In this role you will be expected to:

 

  • Strategize and implement the architecture of the AWS platform to support a distributed content authoring platform
  • Design and build monitoring tools to manage the health and performance of the system
  • Apply a Site Reliability Engineering approach to infrastructure, bringing an engineering, agile practice to operations, with a focus on automation
  • Collaborate with developers and third party vendors on operations and support
  • Customer focused, ensuring operational activities align with achieving overall project success and stakeholder requirements
  • Ensure timely completion of operational requests and activities, routinely interacts with stakeholders/customers to guarantee project success

To succeed in this role you must demonstrate: 

 

  • Eagerness to learn new things and unintimidated by new technology and complex problems. Can be flexible and adapt to changing projects, requirements and technologies
  • Strong professional communication skills across multi-skilled stakeholder teams (a consultant as well as a developer)
  • Experience designing, implementing, and automating infrastructure for distributed systems and Microservice Architecture in AWS
  • Prior/current experience implementing and mastering Continuous Integration DevOps (CI/CD) design for a streamlined build and deployment pipeline
  • Previous experience administering a continuous integration build management pipeline using tools such as CodePipeline, CircleCI, Travis, GoCD, Bamboo, or Elastic Beanstalk
  • Understanding and implementation of configuration management concepts and disciplines such as source code branching/merging strategies
  • An ability to coordinate automation release strategies with Product Managers, Project Managers, QA Leads, Development leads
  • An Agile, collaborative approach to solution development that relies on creating alignment
  • Experience with Docker and a preferably a management platform such as ECS, Mesos or Kubernetes, Vagrant
  • Experience with configuration management and automation tools eg.  Chef/Puppet/Salt/Ansible/SaltStack
  • Experience of monitoring tools and logging tools such as NewRelic, Datadog, ELK, CloudWatch
  • Knowledge of source control systems including Git and the ability to write scripts in Powershell or Bash
