We are currently recruiting for a Head of Agile Delivery to cover maternity leave, this will be a one year fixed term contract


Are you motivated to help The Economist Group grow its agile software delivery mindset?

A hands on, strategic and inspirational senior team player is wanted that will report directly to the Senior Director, Agile Project Services. This person will lead agile software delivery journey of learning and growth across The Economist’s Digital Solutions team, including line management responsibilities of Scrum Masters. Responsible for ensuring quality and timeliness against the agreed roadmap, this person will also change the internal perception of Scrum by using a toolbox of experience to establish this delivery method throughout the organisation.

This is a demanding role and requires a strategic thinker with the ability to convert strategy into operational execution. Excellent operational management, scrum and associated methodologies knowledge and rigorous planning skills are essential.

A strong customer focused team leader, team player and cross functional collaborator is required. This candidate needs to be skilled in influencing others (at all levels) in addition to having the ability to flourish in a high performance culture.

The aptitude and passion to champion agile and lean best practices, and help foster a culture of continuous improvement is a key requirement. This is the ideal role for a focused individual that can take this organisation from general agile implementation to full scale agile delivery.



 In this role you will be expected to:

  • Work alongside, support, and motivate delivery teams, and manage stakeholder expectations
  • Manage and coach the team to ensure product, project and roadmap delivery using the appropriate methodologies
  • Work with the Product and Platform teams to define the roadmap
  • Lead the collaborative, dynamic planning processes internally to ensure that work can be completed versus capacity and business need
  • Encourage a culture of innovation and value add; inspiring creative thinking whilst focussing on outcome, putting value and purpose first
  • Provide constructive challenge to senior management on change proposals
  • Design and implement a continuous delivery strategy
  • Ensure peer to peer communication and mentorship with the technology leadership team

Experience, skills and professional attributes

To succeed in this role you must demonstrate:

  • Extensive experience in scrum/project management/delivery management or an associated area
  • That you have managed software development projects, and are familiar with agile and lean methodologies
  • A deep understanding of the product development cycle from project inception to final delivery and continuous delivery
  • Effective management of teams, in a collaborative environment with a flat structure to deliver projects successfully
  • Experience of influencing senior level executives including C level
  • That you are a strong communicator with the ability to proactively manage stakeholders by partnering on decisions
  • The ability to motivate others to achieve complex and challenging objectives through an influential nature
  • An understanding of both transitional and transformational change management, ideally with experience
  • A pragmatic and flexible approach, with a willingness to take on different roles and responsibilities
  • A proven ability to determine and report on key project metrics to stakeholders

To succeed in this role you must have:

  • Experience of active participation within the community, sharing and learning skills and knowledge
  • Agile, Kanban, Project Management certifications
  • An understanding of Financial Markets
  • An understanding of different technologies and platforms
