Accountabilities

We are hiring a Senior Business Analyst (SBA) for our consulting group within our South Africa (SA) office. SBA works closely with Canback leadership and with client leadership to evaluate business problems, assemble recommendations, and communicate information and ideas clearly throughout projects. The SBA is an exciting and challenging role, with the opportunity to work independently and creatively. As we are a small firm, SBA will be exposed to all aspects of our business and will likely travel extensively outside the SA.

The SBA is a client-facing role, working on projects under the direction of a Project Manager. Typical projects last for 2-4 months and are aimed at unlocking latent market opportunities

 

Daily tasks for SBA include:

  • Collecting data from multiple sources. Evaluating data quality and resolving data inconsistencies
  • Conducting market and industry research
  • Building statistical models using rigorous econometrics techniques
  • Performing industry and market forecasting using time series
  • Examining analysis to identify and solve methodological challenges
  • Integrating of macro and micro economic theory into analysis
  • Using elasticities analysis to determine the price change effect on the market
  • Conducting primary sources research and integrating of obtained qualitative data
  • Building financial models
  • Creating presentations and participating in regular meetings with clients
  • Managing our in-country consultants who help us develop local insights to bridge the geographic and cultural gap

Within 2 years at Canback a successful employee in this position will have accomplished the following goals:

  • Used data to make evidence based decisions that are technically sound
  • Acquired advance skills in statistics and econometrics
  • Managed projects for multi-national firms in emerging markets
  • Completed M&A due diligence projects
  • Achieved promotion to associate level; successfully trained and managed new hires
  • Traveled abroad and within SA

Experience, skills and professional attributes

Our most effective Senior Business Analyst will have exceptional analytical and quantitative skills, a knack for problem solving and good interpersonal skills. SBA must have an extensive background in econometrics and experience with Stata. Having a strong business acumen and a knowledge of finance and accounting principles is an added benefit. A graduate degree in a quantitative field (preferably mathematics or statistics) is required with at least 2-3 years’ work experience.
