Economist Events, the award-winning events and conferences division of The Economist Group, seeks a Programme Executive on a years Fixed Term Contract covering maternity leave, to support developing content for The Economist events, to secure speakers, and to manage editorial and external stakeholders. As well as working with programme editors on individual projects, the Programme Executive will have the opportunity to be project lead on some smaller projects.



In this role you will be expected to:

  • Manage assigned portfolio of events from start to finish—work in coordination with the Programme Editor on larger projects or alone on smaller projects
  • Manage speaker process on assigned events from start to finish— work in coordination with the Programme Editor on larger projects or alone on smaller projects. The process includes research, inviting, liaising, and confirming senior-level speakers from government and private sector to speak at Economist events
  • Liaison with world-class speakers and stakeholders. Ability to make phone calls with a confident demeanour for communication in a range of situations
  • Collect speaker biographies and photos, set up speaker preparation calls, coordinate speaker travel, and perform other administrative tasks as required
  • Coordinate with marketing, sponsorship and other teams to ensure smooth planning for and running of events. Occasional travel to events, including on-site event management as required
  • Ensure that written and oral communication meets the high-quality standards of The Economist brand
  • Support sponsor relationship management as needed


Experience, skills and professional attributes

To succeed in this role you must demonstrate:

  • Excellent project management skills
  • Editorial experience or education
  • Government relations or ability to work at senior level with industry leaders
  • “High-level” programme development and conference management experience, ideally of working in cross-functional teams
  • A good understanding of The Economist and Economist Conferences brand and its position in the marketplace
  • Experience of conferences globally
  • Demonstrable track record of developing events and programmes to deadline and delivery to budget and quality standards
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Cool-headed resourcefulness under pressure
  • That you are a team player
  • Fluent spoken and written English, the ability to speak Spanish is a plus
