The Economist Group is the leading source of analysis on international business and world affairs. We deliver information through a range of formats, from newspaper and magazines to conferences and electronic services. 
We are looking for sixth-form or school leavers, who are interested in one week’s unpaid work experience during July and August. We will accept two students each week for five weeks. This programme is not designed for university students or those with previous work experience.
You will have a keen interest in the publishing or media sector. You will be passionate about economics, politics or journalism.  
The programme will provide you with an interesting overview of our commercial and editorial practices.  You will shadow several members of staff, gaining valuable insight and experience across the business including The Economist, Economist Intelligence Unit and Economist Media Businsesses.
You will be able to apply for this scheme until February 28th 2018.
You must have the existing right to work in the UK. 
We will pay reasonable travel and subsistence expenses within London.


In the role you would be expected to:  
  • Spend time in the editorial and commercial parts of the business 
  • Carry out projects that replicate working at The Economist Group
  • Attend The Economist editorial meetings
  • Meet senior managers and staff throughout the business

Experience, skills and professional attributes

To succeed in the role you must have:
  • An interest in a career in media
  • A plan to study economics, politics or journalism at University
  • A strong sense of pride in your work
  • A high degree of intellectual curiosity, and an interest in international business and current affairs
  • The ability to take ownership and shows initiative in a project

  • Excellent copy writing skills in a range of formats: programmes, articles, blogs, summary papers
