The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) is a leading provider of business intelligence and consulting services. Our growing consumer practice serves global consumer-facing companies in strategy, analytics and intelligence, with a strong focus on data-driven and quantitative analysis.


The consumer practice is recruiting for an Associate to work within an internationally-focused and diverse team. The successful candidate will work in consulting teams to deliver projects and work with client leadership to analyse problems and generate solutions to critical business challenges.


In the role you would be expected to:

  • Work within consulting teams to deliver projects to strict deadlines
  • Lead specific project workstreams with a strong quantitative component, including statistical modelling and strategy formulation
  • Work with client to quickly understand and analyse key business strategy problems and formulate solutions
  • Present project deliverables to client leadership and effectively communicate findings and recommendations
  • Support business development teams to provide proposal support, including data research and methodology development
  • Manage project input from other parts of the Economist Intelligence Unit
  • Maintain effective relationships with other parts of the Economist Intelligence Unit

Experience, skills and professional attributes

To succeed in the role you must have:

  • Three to four years’ experience in consulting
  • Excellent grasp of business strategy issues
  • Demonstrated ability to apply econometric and statistical techniques to business problems
  • Master’s degree or MBA with a strong quantitative focus such as Economics, Finance, or Statistics
  • Exceptional Excel skills and familiarity with statistical packages (Stata, EViews etc.)
  • Excellent Powerpoint skills in slide design and creating data-driven narratives for general business audiences
  • Familiarity with languages used in data management and analysis such as R and Python a plus
  • Ability to communicate effectively to senior business audiences

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Understanding of basic economic and demographic concepts 
  • Knowledge of consumer trends and business issues facing the industry
  • Application of quantitative methods to solve business questions
  • Advanced Powerpoint skills; ability to synthesise complex analysis in slides for proposals and as client deliverables
  • Good writing and outstanding analytical skills
