The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) is a leading provider of business intelligence and consulting services. Our growing consumer practice serves global consumer-facing companies in strategy, analytics and intelligence, with a strong focus on data-driven and quantitative analysis.


The consumer practice is recruiting for a Business Analyst to work within an internationally-focused and diverse team. The successful candidate will help to support our consulting projects, and deliver bespoke quantitative analysis which supports corporate decision-making.


In the role you would be expected to:

  • Prepare and deliver quantitative analysis for client consulting projects, including data analysis,  demand modelling, elasticity estimation and other econometric modelling
  • Take ownership of specific workstreams within a project including analysis of results and slide preparation
  • Work with Engagement Managers to present interim project status and final project deliverables to clients
  • Provide proposal support, including data research and methodology development as required
  • Work with the Country Analysis team and other parts of the Economist Intelligence Unit to secure their input to projects
  • Work with senior staff and engagement managers to deliver projects to strict deadlines and within budget
  • Maintain effective relationships with other parts of the Economist Intelligence Unit, including the business development teams, Country Analysis, and other parts of the Group.

Experience, skills and professional attributes

To succeed in the role you must have:

  • One to two years previous experience in a role related to economic or quantitative analysis and fulfilling client projects; exposure to a consulting environment and supporting senior consultants; ability to apply econometric and statistical techniques to business problems
  • Graduate/Post-Graduate in Economics, Mathematics or any other degree with a strong quantitative focus
  • A strong understanding of macroeconomic and demographic concepts; familiarity with consumer and retail industry trends; exceptional numeracy skills
  • Exceptional Excel skills and familiarity with statistical packages (Stata, EViews) or languages (R, Python etc); ability to use Powerpoint to produce compelling slides; excellent communication skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills
  • A strong sense of pride in your work; perseverance and problem-solving to overcome problems and challenges; ability to work autonomously and within a team

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Understanding of basic economic and demographic concepts 
  • Knowledge of consumer trends and business issues facing the industry
  • Application of quantitative methods to solve business questions
  • Advanced Powerpoint skills; ability to synthesise complex analysis in slides for proposals and as client deliverables
  • Good writing and outstanding analytical skills
