Currently we are seeking a Director of Operations for the Asia team who will play a key role, working under the supervision of the Head of Global Operations for Events and in close coordination with the VP and Head of Events, Asia and the events team as a whole. 


The Director of Operations, Asia, will have responsibility for the delivery of The Economist Events portfolio in the Asia Pacific region to the highest level of excellence. Whether live or online events, you will be responsible for the overall event management of the events portfolio including budgets, resources, management of sponsor deliverables, key supplier relationships, adherance to schedules, and the management of an in-house team of Operations staff.


The ideal candidate will be a seasoned events professional, accustomed to delivering events at the highest level.  


In this role you will be expected to:

  • Manage the Events Operations team, handling resource allocation of the team across the event portfolio and overseeing hiring, induction and training of operations team members as required
  • Coordinate and project manage all elements of the event process, aligning sales, marketing, programming and operations to deliver all live events in the region
  • Act as the sponsor liaison, managing event sponsors/clients and being responsible for sponsorship deliverables 
  • Manage the overall resource management of the Operations team, while respecting timelines, ensuring high standard quality standards are met and communicating effectively with all stakeholders internally
  • Be responsible for events budget and cost-monitoring and reporting
  • Be accountable for delivery objectives 
  • Oversee all logistical aspects of events, such as key supplier relationships, supplier contract management and tender management 
  • Manage on-site events to ensure a seamless on-site delivery of events from set-up, venue and registration processes to smooth overall team operation on-site

Experience, skills and professional attributes

To succeed in the role you must have:

  • A solid events operations experience 
  • A strong managerial background (hands-on experience of planning, scheduling and organising an operations team to execute an events portfolio)
  • High level project management skills
  • Experience of delivering a variety of live event formats
  • An experience working with the highest level of speakers, sponsors, delegates 
  • Fluency in English, other languages a plus
