As the research and analysis division of the Economist Group, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) helps leaders prepare for opportunity, empowering them to act with confidence when making strategic decisions. The EIU is the global standard in providing quality, actionable intelligence to the public and private sector, assessing issues that impact the marketplace for over two hundred countries. The business has a large subscription client base, receiving economic, political and industry analysis through our websites, as well as a consulting business in which we are sometimes required to deliver bespoke content in digital formats (websites, and apps) to clients. At EIU Digital, the technology function in the business, we have three kinds of work, namely strategic projects, changes requests and bug fixes, and operational activities – which deliver products to our subscribers, our online store users and our clients of custom content.

 

Strategic projects can be 3 – 9 months long, with interim releases and distinct testing phases; smaller changes and bug fixes are bundled into weekly or bi-weekly releases, with testing fitted in. These projects cover the front-end web or other delivery, as well as our backend supporting systems.

 

We are now seeking a senior User Experience Architect / Designer to support in the transformation of customer facing products and service across all EIU digital touch points.

 

This role will be part of our rapidly growing Gurgaon team, which is connected to a wider Global presence across London and New York.  Some flexibility in terms of working across UK and US hours as well as travelling to our offices in London and New York may be required.

Accountabilities

In the role you would be expected to:

 

Design user experience (UX):

  • Design wireframes, create interactive prototypes, create detailed UX specification documents (where applicable), sketch solutions, create site maps / process flows / user journeys / personas
  • Work with the Product Owners, Business Analysts, Visual Designers and Developers to deliver solutions
  • Undertake rapid user testing and feedback gathering for concepts and designs
  • Facilitate co-located and remote product team workshops and meetings to determine needs
  • Quality assure all technical releases ensuring UX requirements are fully met

 

Develop Concepts:

  • Help develop ‘concepts’ for new services or enhancements to support pre-project discussions internally and with customers

 

Be involved in management & delivery planning

  • Support PMs to plan all UX deliverables and estimates
  • Manage and mentor less experienced colleagues; ensure they deliver to the highest standards and that they improve their skills
  • Manage own project activity as well as the team’s (where applicable)

 

Develop process(es)

  • Research the latest methodologies, best practices, applications and technology relevant to UX work
  • Help develop and evolve Design practices and deliverables
  • Ensure highest standards are met across the business

Experience, skills and professional attributes

To succeed in the role you must have:

  • Strong track record for delivery of complex projects across multiple platforms (web, mobile, and tablet)
  • Expertise at designing solutions to be ‘Responsive’ to different screen resolutions
  • Expertise at developing wireframe designs, prototype, annotate designs as part of a specification document write up
  • Demonstrable expertise in present information in intuitive layouts and visualisations
  • Experience in developing data driven applications
  • Proven track record at delivering projects as part of an Agile delivery model
  • Proven track record in leading solutions as sole UX Architect on a project
  • Must be very experienced in facilitating cross functional team meetings across multiple locations
  • Has worked in fast paced environment
  • A background, or at least interest, in publishing, business analytics and information
  • A background in the world of User Experience/User Centred Design/Service Design

  • Strong client communication skills: either face-to-face, email, conference calls and presentations with no supervision
  • Ability to produce high quality ‘client ready’ outputs for full scope of work with limited or no re-work
  • Ability to manage own priorities; has a weekly checkpoint with team lead
  • Leadership skills and must be seen as Design voice on projects; may be expected to manage at least one other person
  • Ability to build relationships and breaks down wall
  • Ability to develop concepts and solutions that inspire confidence across the product team
  • Strong written and spoken English

  • Pro-activeness (willingness to make contributions independently as well as when asked to)
  • Familiarity to use most of the following tools used by EIU Digital:
    • Sketch: concept, wireframes, high end visual designs
    • Invision App: prototype creation
    • Slack: team messaging
    • Replicon: Time tracking & management
    • MS Office: Excel, Work, Visio, Powerpoint
    • VersionOne: Agile Project management tool
    • Google Enterprise: Email, Drive, Calendar, Hang Outs
