As the research and analysis division of the Economist Group, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) helps leaders prepare for opportunity, empowering them to act with confidence when making strategic decisions. The EIU is the global standard in providing quality, actionable intelligence to the public and private sector, assessing issues that affect the marketplace for over two hundred countries.

 

We are recruiting the Editorial and Production Editor to carry out primary outsourcing responsibilities for London-based Country Analysis products, particularly Wire Services and Risk Briefing, ensuring that high quality and timely delivery of content is maintained.

Accountabilities

In the role you would be expected to:

  • Update country pages: Select from in-house feature stories; write summary "nibs" and layout on page through the content management back-end tool (DMS)
  • Select and process third-party articles: Select EIU-appropriate articles through the BBC Monitoring Service, The Economist and Los Angeles Times, and publish these through DMS onto appropriate Wire Services sites
  • Support Risk Briefing (operational risk) country models: Copy edit final text for countries (including fact check); prepare files for publication
  • Update Risk Briefing website: Select appropriate articles to re-publish and periodically update the landing page and write summary nibs for these; copy edit contributor articles 
  • Copy editing Country Outlooks: Tallying text to the country report and preparing files to be published

 

Experience, skills and professional attributes

To succeed in the role you must have:

  • A good level of general education
  • Excellent English language and writing/editing skills 
  • 1-2 years of experience in online sub-editing and/or production. Experience working in an outsourcing environment would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of economics and current affairs, particularly geopolitics
  • Excellent knowledge of Word, Excel and HTML
