The Economist Events team bring together top thinkers from around the world to discuss and debate the most important ideas of our time.  In an increasingly visually driven media landscape, the Economist Events creative team is a vital part of a growth strategy.

 

Currently, we are seeking a Head of Design to manage the global graphic design team, based in EMEA. You will oversee the development of compelling ideas and visuals for all event materials. You will ensure that output is timely, accurate and adhering to brand guidelines. You will report to the Global Head of Marketing and will be involved in the strategic brand direction of award-winning, marquee events.

 

You will be working closely with the regional heads of marketing and operations to ensure the global event schedule is delivered successfully. You will be a team player and a leader, a planner and quick-thinker, an innovator and a brand advocate.

Accountabilities

 In the role you would be expected to: 

 

  • Have a strong creative vision and elevate creative output of the event design team, both in terms of aesthetics and effectiveness of communication
  • Identify and articulate strategic ideas and opportunities for The Economist Events, especially around digital and technology
  • Manage, guide and mentor the event design team across multiple projects and create a culture of productive creativity
  • Actively participate in brainstorms and represent the creative team in meetings
  • Help to deliver excellent creative work to structured deadlines
  • Be an active, visible thought leader in a creative field and elevate The Economist Events by affiliation
  • Quickly grasp and sublimate concepts

Experience, skills and professional attributes

To succeed in the role you must have: 
 
  • Solid experience in graphic design, marketing design, advertising, or equivalent fields
  • Bachelor of Arts degree (or equivalent) or work experience as a designer
  • Experience of managing and leading a creative team
  • A firm grasp of current trends in design, technology and media, including publishing
  • Expert knowledge of Creative Suite, typography, production
  • Working knowledge of Keynote or PowerPoint
  • Expertise in at least one of these: Copywriting, illustration, infographics, animation, video editing, html, CSS, programming, UX
  • Client facing experience and ability to unify internal and external brand guidelines
