Our digital solutions team provides services to The Economist Group businesses and is also responsible for the flagship products including Economist.com and The Economist digital apps.

 

Digital Solutions is a business unit within The Economist Group that is responsible for the Web Products (Economist.com, 1843, etc.) and The Economist mobile apps. The Digital Solutions department is responsible for the technology and consists of Developers, User Experience Architects, and Solution Managers who all work closely with each other and with other business units.

 

We are seeking a User Experience Architect to join The Economist group in London. You would be committed to our common mission – to create and run the world’s best known digital weekly newsmagazine, and to have fun along the way. You are capable of mentoring others on adherence to the standards. You contribute to an ambitious strategy with experience planning and customer insights, and execute on the strategy with user research and testing, information architecture and interaction design, in close collaboration with the technical and business development teams.

 

The User Experience Architect is responsible for creating world-class reading experiences for The Economist with a sophisticated, demanding and international audience. 

Accountabilities

 

In this role you would be expected to:

  • Gather business requirements, review and interpret statistics and other research data, and help create effective, desirable and intuitive user interfaces
  • Work with product development, editorial, marketing and circulation teams to understand business goals and with designers and developers to guide the prototyping and implementation process
  • Develop interaction flows, wire frames, mock-ups and prototypes
  • Be an advocate for, and champion user experience 
  • Plan and execute qualitative and quantitative research and remote and in-person usability tests
  • Develop and refine research methods and strategies 
  • Analyze and translate research results into actionable information 
  • Maintain and share awareness of industry trends and new technologies and explore those that would benefit the business and the readers
  • Liaise with third party service providers
  • Ensure The Economist style and brand guidelines apply across all of the various platforms and reading devices

Experience, skills and professional attributes

To succeed in this role you must have:

  • Extensive experience as an information architect, user experience designer, interaction designer or similar role, with experience performing at a senior level
  • A demonstrated ability to produce user-centred solutions as evidenced by a portfolio of samples of work 
  • Proven experience creating successful, large-scale, consumer-facing products
  • Experience conducting user research and translating user research into design decisions
  • Experience using web analytics data to inform design decisions
  • Previous experience in ecommerce, media or marketing is highly desirable
