Currently we are seeking an Senior Event Manager who will lead the delivery of our events in the Middle East. This position is based in Dubai and will be responsible for the smooth execution and delivery of all operations related to Economist Events in the Middle East. This includes venue research & contracting, AV production, logistics, staffing schedules & onsite delivery.


In the role you would be expected to: 

  • Act as a Project Manager for custom projects, managing the marketing team, event programming team and operations team in order to keep event projects on track

  • Manage vendor selection, proposing supplier options (to the Director of Operations) that ensure we are able to manage costs within budget, and managing those relationships

  • Project management systems, procedures and processes that have been developed in conjunction with the Operations Director, to ensure the department meets previously agreed upon deadlines for the programming, marketing, and production of events

  • Support the marketing fuction including web design and build, delegate recruitment via invitations and registrations, branding etc
  • Project manage the marketing, programming & operations elements of event delivery and acting as client point of contact for custom projects
  • Ensuring the smooth execution of event production and logistics to accomplish the goals of the Events business

  • Timely project management, including but not limited to establishing and meeting timelines and deadlines, and ensuring others meet goals

  • Manage the event budget, direct costs, invoicing and accounts payable process

  • Manage freelancers on an event by event basis where necessary

  • Solicit, select, negotiate and manage external vendors such as audiovisual, venue/hotel, catering, printers, photographers, temp agencies and others as necessary

  • Develop and manage staffing plan and direct staff onsite while researching & recommending new venues, vendors or processes where applicable

  • Manage existing custom event delivery with the Programmer, Marketing Manager and Event Manager based in Dubai
  • Manage VIPs and senior stakeholders in a courteous and professional manner 

  • Make recommendations to the Director of Operations for vendors, consultants, venues and other external resources needed in the execution of events

  • Manage & direct onsite staff & team members to ensure successful event delivery

  • Join meetings and discussions with the EMEA and global event operations team, and coordinate activities for Middle East clients in order to make efficient use of our global client management and event management toos and infrastructure

Experience, skills and professional attributes

To succeed in the role you must have:

  • Client management experience in the Middle East

  • Ensure events run smoothly and to the quality expected by The Economist Events and the client
  • Events are executed within budget

  • Optimum venues, vendors & agencies are researched & recommended

  • Excellent negotiation skills manifest in favorable contract rates & terms

  • Success of project management skills, establishing and managing to deadlines

  • Quality of delegate experience as reflected in debrief evaluations

  • Ability to manage peers & senior members of the team to achieve project goals

  • Strong event marketing knowledge


To succeed in the role you will be able to demonstrate: 

  • Event execution, working with Dubai based team and clients, event organizers, AV & logistics suppliers

  • At least 4-5 years experience working in an events environment preferably in the Middle East

  • Solid working knowledge of event products, production and logistics

  • Comfortable managing customer database software including MS Office

  • Familiarity with new event technology

  • Project management, working with clients

  • Contract negotiation and budget management skills

  • Proactive and able to effectively influence peers & senior stakeholders

  • Able to manage multiple projects and prioritize heavy workload

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Can-do person, effective time manager, reliable, results orientated, a finisher, attention to detail, disciplined

  • Able to fulfil flexible working hours during busy periods

  • Team player, collaborator, good communicator

  • Understanding department needs and objectives
