The role of Group finance is to support the business in making commercial and operational decisions to maximise profitability; provide information and analysis to management and the Board to support strategic decisions; manage working capital to quickly convert profit into cash; develop and maintain a strong control environment to detect and prevent financial loss; and to comply with legal, statutory and tax legislation on a worldwide basis.

 

Currently, we are seeking a Circulation Finance Systems Assistant to help control all aspects of the reporting and accounting for the Economist’s new in house Subscriptions platform. The role will be assisting in maintaining all necessary financial controls and processes to ensure the effective accounting and reporting from the Subscription platform.

Accountabilities

In this role you will be expected to:

  • Maintain the process for daily cash reporting to enable cashiering team to reconcile with the payments received at the bank
  • Ensure that all the transactions in the Subscription platform are being accurately reported in the Economist accounting system.
  • Perform daily maintenance tasks within the subscription platform (e.g. failed payments)
  • Review daily, weekly and monthly system integrity checks and resolve any issues
  • Work with internal finance teams (incl. Cashiers, Accounts Payable, Tax and Circulation Finance) to monitor and improve internal processes
  • Create, upload and reconcile the monthly transactions journal from the Subscription platform to the Economist Accounting system
  • Ensure that the transactions are being reported to the level of detail needed for all departments to use
  • Assist in the reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts relating to the subscriptions processing and to be able to explain any variances.
  • Produce weekly refund files and work with Accounts Payable to ensure that customers are refunded when subscriptions are cancelled.
  • Process failed credit card refunds
  • Become the Subscription platform super user who can respond to any queries, create and update any reporting requirements.
  • Assist with Audits to provide full Audit trails of all transactions
  • Liaise with stakeholders to ensure the system is able to report to the level of detail needed by the review teams
  • Assist in testing of any changes in the subscription platform

Experience, skills and professional attributes

To succeed in the role you must have: 

  • Good academics
  • Previous experience in a management accounting role (ideally subscriptions), preferably working with multiple products, currencies and geographic locations
  • Understanding of Subscription accounting process (Zuora system an advantage)
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience of using an ERP system (PeopleSoft an advantage)
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • High level of professionalism and personal integrity
