The Economist Intelligence Unit - Healthcare offers healthcare-focused market and business intelligence services complimented by strategic advisory to help medical device, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and healthcare service firms understand their current and potential markets, and implement pragmatic and innovative strategies to ultimately tap into new growth opportunities.


Currently we are looking for an experienced Principal Consultant with an entrepreneurial mind-set and strong leadership qualities to join us in a leadership role based in Shanghai, China.  As a Principal, you are a critical member of the organization and in leading the project team. The Principal will be heavily involved in leading and managing strategic projects and engagements with our key clients while leading a team of healthcare consultants. The Principal will be put on a leadership track with an aggressive career progression plan, if proven capable.


In the role you would be expected to:      

  • Support the implementation of the China Business Strategy, and enable the deepening of the company’s service offerings including driving the growth of business consulting capabilities
  • Develop and implement key company initiatives including new solutions, workflow improvement and staff training
  • In addition to independent business development efforts, also work closely with Business Development executives to grow company’s base of clients and develop “winning” proposals from leads and RFPs generated
  • Manage and deepen existing client relationships, and develop new relationships that turn into mutually lucrative long term relationships
  • Lead a team of healthcare associates and analysts in project engagement in the healthcare industry in the areas of market opportunity assessment, go-to-market strategy, customer insights, channel optimization strategy, competitive benchmarking and more.
  • Mentor, guide and manage associate and analysts in ways that support their ongoing growth and development

Experience, skills and professional attributes

To succeed in the role you must have:

  • Minimum of 8+ years of relevant experience in healthcare business consulting
  • Consulting experience and Healthcare sector experience
  • Well versed in strategy development
  • A proven track record in client handling
  • Proven business development skills
  • Experience in market research & intelligence gathering, insights analysis and strategic recommendation development
  • A track record in nurturing and mentoring middle managers and junior staff
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from top tier universities, preferably with a major in Science field
  • MBA degree preferred
